Finding My Way

Posted on June 22, 2019June 22, 2019 by Deb Squire

When I started in the Career Development field 30+ years ago, one of our leaders, Richard Bolles, wrote about how to find your mission in life. Almost immediately I knew that my mission in life was to guide persons in identifying and affirming their natural talents and how those talents can add value in their…

Do you know your multiplication tables ?

Posted on May 16, 2017June 22, 2019 by Deb Squire

Recently a family member asked my 8 year old granddaughter, “Do you know your multiplication tables yet?” She answered, “What are multiplication tables?” Now, she is good at math and has some sense of what multiplication is- she just was not sure about the tables part. Immediately, I thought that is how I often feel…

Engaging Trainer and Advisor

I first met Deb when she was an adjunct instructor at Virginia Western. She is an energetic and engaging facilitator, as well as a career and transition coach who genuinely cares about her students and clients. Deb is eager to offer assistance and advice that is relevant and proactive. She has worked with job seekers and employers to make valuable connections. I have referred quite a few people to her for advice and resources during their job searches. Deb adds value wherever she engages.

Deb Squire – Personal Reference

Deb is very intuitive about people and their strengths and weaknesses. She has an uncanny ability to adjust her explanations of topics to suit very different audiences. She creatively describes complex topics about jobs, wages, market intelligence, demographics, skill sets, do’s/don’ts – and enables people with differing levels of comprehension to understand well enough to come away with an actionable plan of action to move their job search process forward to the next level. And, I’m sure in many cases, that actionable plan includes scrapping 100% of everything they’ve been doing so far. She is very personable and very involved in the community through volunteering, outreach, seminars, etc… and through those activities both positions herself to have personal relationships with the hiring executives in this region and to make connections of jobs to qualified candidates – saving everyone in the process time/money/frustration. She asks tough open ended questions that forces people to be present in their situation and knows when to make the tough decision to move on from people who are unwilling to actively participate in their own outcome. She is also an excellent teacher/mentor and conveys her passion about this industry in her interactions with people of all ages and education levels. There is no better person qualified to do what she does.

Deb Squire – Talent Placement

This workshop is critical for job seekers and also people interested in making a career move. It would also be beneficial to those who just want to get to know themselves a little better. Just about everyone at the one I attended (40-50 people) had at least one Aha Moment during the exercises. Self awareness is key in everyday life but also in the workplace – not only to understand how you could/should be acting/reacting but as important how others are reacting to you and how you make sure it’s as positive as possible. Understanding how key priorities play a role in your success or failure in a job search is a huge time saver – if you do the work you know you need to do after you leave this workshop. Deb has a wealth of experience behind her and the passion to help people overcome obstacles and get on the right path to right employment. Highly recommend.
